My research is funded by the European Research Council as part of the multi-researcher ETHNO-ISS project, which looks at the International Space Station from multiple anthropological perspectives and as a nexus of sociality spanning the globe and beyond. We consider the ISS as a larger entity that incorporates not only the orbiting structure itself but also terrestrial sites such as mission controls, training facilities, and launch sites.
My research, broadly and messily, looks at how people create relationships to spaceflight and the ISS specifically through social media and material culture, and what these narratives and shared experiences tell us about potential futures in space.
